Engineering Graphics Pathway
Drafting and design is the process of turning ideas of how things should be constructed into technical drawings. These drawings are based on sketches and calculations made by engineers, surveyors, architects and/or scientists. The drawings provide visual guidelines such as dimensions, materials to be used, and procedures to be followed to build everything from manufactured products such as spacecraft, automobiles, and industrial machinery to structures such as homes, office buildings, and oil and gas pipelines.

Introduction to Engineering Drawing and Design is a foundation course that serves as an introduction to the drafting and design field and is a prerequisite to all other courses in the Engineering Drawing and Design program. Emphasis is placed on safety, geometric construction, fundamentals of Computer-Aided Drafting, and multi-view drawings. Students learn drafting techniques through the study of geometric construction at which time they are introduced to computer-aided drafting and design. The standards are aligned with the drafting and design standards in the Georgia’s technical colleges, thus helping students qualify for advanced placement should they continue their education at the post secondary level.
Engineering Concepts and Drawings is a one-credit course designed to further the development of student knowledge and skills in the Engineering Drawing and Design field. Students learn to illustrate more complex objects using the Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) system and develop skills in dimensioning, tolerancing, pictorials, sections, auxiliary views, and intersection and developments.
Solid Modeling is a one-credit course designed to further the development of student knowledge and skills in engineering and related mechanical design drafting areas. Emphasis is placed on 3-D working and assembly drawings including rendering and animation.
